Was Tennis for Two the first video game?

Tennis for Two, created by physicist William Higinbotham in 1958, is often considered one of the earliest video games. Played on an oscilloscope, it simulated a tennis match between two players. While Tennis for Two predates the popularization of video games, it is not universally recognized as the first. Some argue that other early games, such as OXO (1952) or Spacewar! (1962), hold that distinction. The determination of the first video game is subjective and depends on the criteria used to define a video game.

Under some definitions Tennis for Two is considered the first video game, as while it did not include any technological innovations over prior games, it was the first computer game to be created purely as an entertainment product rather than for academic research or commercial technology promotion.
